Nothing beats a smoked ham and mature cheddar cheese toastie.
A seeded bloomer (white does make a more luscious and sinful sarnie, but brown works as well), buttered on the outside (both sides) and loaded with smoked ham and mature cheddar, a good grinding of black pepper , then onto a hot baking sheet and put in a hot (200degrees ish) oven until the outside is golden and the cheese gooey and melting - about 10 mins or so.
Serve straight out the oven, minding not to burn your mouth - or with a good dollop of Branston pickle or Mr Whelan's home made pickled onions.
